For the first time in at least a decade, Grayson County High School students were selected through an arduous vetting process to participate in all three disciplines of the Governor’s Scholars Program.

“The Governor’s Scholars Program strives to enhance Kentucky’s next generation of civic and economic leaders,” the program’s website states. “Established in 1983, the program provides academic and personal growth through the balance of a strong liberal arts program with a full co-curricular and residential life experience.”

The Governor’s Scholars Program includes disciplines related to Scholars, Arts, and Entrepreneurs.

All selections were made through a highly competitive application process involving students from around the state.

Selected to participate in the Governor’s Scholars Program were Michenna Meredith, Annslee Shartzer, Peyton Pharis, Hollie Hagan, Gabriel Secora, Landon Shiarella, and John Smith. Izzy Weedman and Kaylee Hodges were selected as alternates.

The Governor’s Scholar Program is a five-week residential experience.

Selected to attend the Governor’s School for the Arts, with a concentration in Visual Arts, was Norea Watson. Chloe Collard, also in Visual Arts, was selected as an alternate.

The Arts program is a three-week opportunity to explore creativity and learn from professional artists and educators.

Lastly, Daniel Ratley was chosen to attend the Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs, a three-week program which identifies and enables Kentucky high school students to become the commonwealth’s next generation of entrepreneurs.
