The National Weather Service (NWS) reports three tornadoes struck Jefferson County Wednesday and one twister touched down in Meade County.
All the tornadoes were EF-1s, with maximum wind speeds reaching 110 miles per hour.
The strongest tornado touched down in the Newburg area of Louisville, off Gardiner Lane. Another twister tore through Pleasure Ridge Park in south Louisville, while a third twister did damage in Watterson Park, a home-rule city of about 1,000 people in central Jefferson County, off Poplar Level Road.
The fourth tornado touched down just off Joe Prather Highway near Brandenburg.
A man, Billy Corum, died in Valley Station during the storm after a tree fell on him as he walked his dog.
The tornadoes struck Wednesday between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
There have been many reports of damage associated with the tornadoes and accompanying thunderstorm, including a tractor-trailer being overturned on the Gene Snyder Freeway, severe damage to an apartment complex in south Louisville (which displaced about 50 residents), along with multiple trees and power lines down.
The NWS tornado damage surveys are ongoing.
