A Paducah couple is facing multiple charges after four children tested positive for several drugs, including fentanyl and cocaine.

The Paducah Police Department arrested 27-year-old Jakyron Burnside and 27-year-old Chrishell Burns and charged each with three counts of second-degree criminal abuse (child 12 or under) and two counts each of possession of a controlled substance (cocaine, methamphetamine). Burnside was additionally charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (fentanyl).

Multiple media outlets report that the couple took their two-year-old toddler to an emergency room on March 19 after the child became lethargic, had trouble maintaining consciousness and had difficulty breathing.

Once in the emergency room, Narcan was administered to the toddler resulting in the child regaining consciousness. The child was then airlifted to an Indiana hospital.

A toxicology test was conducted on the child, with the toddler testing positive for cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, oxycodone, and marijuana.

Police executed a search warrant at the couple’s residence, with authorities discovering over two grams of cocaine, a container that tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana.

The couple’s three other young children were tested and came back positive for cocaine, marijuana, and fentanyl.

Burns surrendered to authorities on Friday and was lodged in the McCracken County Detention Center.

Police arrested Burnside after executing an undercover purchase of fentanyl at his home. He has also been lodged in the McCracken County Detention Center.
