A Monroe County man is facing an attempted murder charge after being accused of shooting his wife in the back of the head.

The Tompkinsville Police Department arrested 29-year-old Jared K. Tarry, of Tompkinsville, and charged him with attempted murder (domestic violence) and first-degree wanton endangerment after responding to a domestic disturbance call.

Upon arriving at the scene, Tarry’s wife told police her husband shot her in the back of the head. Police secured the victim and entered the residence and took Tarry into custody.

WBKO.com reports that court documents indicate Tarry told officers he was in a bathroom when he heard a gunshot. Tarry said his wife then called 911 and blamed the shooting on him.

The victim, who was transported a local hospital, told police Tarry arrived at the residence intoxicated (the suspect’s preliminary breath test showed an alcohol level of .207) and began verbally assaulting her. As she gathered her belongings and 18-month old baby to leave the home, the victim said Tarry shot her in the back of the head.

Police seized multiple firearms from the residence.

Tarry was lodged in the Barren County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond.
