The National Weather Service (NWS) says a tornado touched down Friday night in far eastern Jefferson County near the Shelby County line.

The NWS said the EF-1 tornado packed 90 mile per hour winds when it struck Jefferson County just east of Floyds Fork.

The twister initially touched down just east of the Gene Snider Freeway and was on the ground for about four miles. The tornado was approximately 130 yards wide as it traveled through Terra View Trail and the Lake Forest neighborhood before lifting in Persimmon Ridge.

The Lake Forest subdivision, an upscale area in eastern Jefferson County, had several reports of damage, primarily downed trees.

The NWS has not yet released storm survey team information regarding the extensive damage the Hopkinsville Historic District suffered during Friday night’s thunderstorm.
