Glendale will soon be home to an Elizabethtown Community and Technical College (ECTC) satellite campus aimed at training workers for the Ford BlueOval SK Battery Park currently under construction.

The 24,000-square-foot campus, adjacent to the twin battery plants, is expected to be completed in the next 12 months, with WDRB.com and The News-Enterprise reporting that it will serve as a training ground for the thousands of workers the plants will employ.

“As the plant evolves and changes, the jobs are going to evolve and change,” ECTC President Juston Pate told WDRB.com. “Having that training facility on site, I think, shows good vision so the workforce can keep up with the demand and need.”

The education facility will initially be used for “onboarding employees,” Pate said. But as time moves on, the campus will be “retooled,” according to Pate, and officials will “take a look at what programming we can offer to help lead to jobs; not just for BlueOval SK, but there’s going to be a lot of ancillary businesses that are coming here to support BlueOval SK.”

The Kentucky General Assembly is supplying the $25 million price tag to build the campus. Once completed, the battery plants are expected to employ 5,000 workers.
