A Grayson County man has been sentenced to prison after secretly video recording a juvenile female family member while she was showering.

John A. Crabtree, 36, of Anneta, was sentenced to three years in prison last week after being found guilty of video voyeurism, a class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Crabtree, according to the arrest citation, secretly videotaped the victim with his cell phone while she was showering on at least five occasions between August 2020 and January 2021.

The girl found a video of herself showering on Crabtree’s cell phone, which had been hidden to surreptitiously record the girl, in late January 2021. She deleted the video and returned the phone to Crabtree “due to (her) being scared,” the citation states.

Crabtree, while being interrogated, said the recordings were “premeditated and planned out to record her in the shower for his gratification,” Kentucky State Police Trooper Jakob Clemons wrote in the citation.

Kentucky State Police began its investigation into Crabtree after being contacted by Child Protective Services. He was originally arrested on January 29, 2021.

Crabtree is lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center as he awaits transfer to a prison.
