Two Leitchfield residents have been airlifted after a three-vehicle accident on South Main Street in Leitchfield.
Saturday at approximately noon, the Leitchfield Police Department, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Leitchfield Fire Department, and EMS responded to the wreck at the intersection of South Main Street and Commerce Drive.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found that a Kia passenger car, being driven by a 36-year-old female Leitchfield resident, was northbound on South Main Street when it struck a Chevrolet pickup truck, being driven by a 73-year-old Leitchfield man, that was turning left onto Commerce Drive.
The impact tossed the Kia into a Dodge van, being driven by an 84-year-old Leitchfield woman, that was at the stop sign on Commerce Drive waiting to turn right onto South Main Street, according to Leitchfield police.
The female driver of the Kia and her passenger, a 33-year-old Leitchfield man, were airlifted from the scene to University of Louisville Hospital, police said. The female suffered critical injuries while the male passenger had serious injuries.
The male driver of the Chevy truck and his passenger, a 46-year-old Leitchfield woman, went to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center by private means with minor injuries.
The occupants of the Dodge, the 84-year-old driver and 21-year-old Leitchfield man, were not injured.
Working the scene for LPD were Sgt. Keith Harrell and Officers Eugene Cain and Greg Whobrey. Deputy Sean Fentress arrived and provided traffic control, as all four lanes of South Main Street were closed for about 45 minutes.
