A student at an eastern Kentucky elementary school has been taken into custody after he was found with a large knife and another weapon on school property.
The Richmond Police Department said the boy was taken into custody Thursday morning at approximately 7:00 at Glenn Marshal Elementary School.
“There was a threat that the student intended to carry out but, fortunately, that did not happen,” Richmond Police Chief Rodney Richardson said.
The juvenile, when confronted by police, told officers he “intended to harm individuals at the school,” the Richmond PD said.
“There is no initial indication that the juvenile conspired with anyone,” police stated.
Additional officers have been placed on the school campus out of an abundance of caution.
