Multiple people were injured after a passenger car crossed the median on the Western Kentucky Parkway and struck a tractor-trailer.
Friday afternoon at approximately 3:25, the Leitchfield Fire Department, Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins and EMS responded to near the 101-mile marker of the eastbound parkway after a westbound Honda Civic crossed the median and struck an eastbound M&L Trucking semi directly on the driver’s side saddle tank.
The impact punctured the tank, spilling diesel fuel, with firefighters cleaning the fuel from the roadway.
The female driver of the Honda, along with two juveniles, was transported to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The male driver of the truck was uninjured.
It’s unclear what caused the driver of the Honda to cross the median, but extremely high winds could have played a role.
The semi was carrying aluminum products, according to Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall.
The names of the drivers were not available.
