A northern Kentucky man has been charged with attempted murder and first-degree rape, among other counts, after brutal attacks on a woman over a three day period.
In addition to the attempted murder (domestic violence) and rape charges, police charged Matthew O’Connor, 38, of Sanders (Carroll Co.), with kidnapping with serious physical injury, first-degree assault (domestic violence), and first-degree strangulation.
The assaults took place between January 18 and January 21 in Gallatin County, according to a report by WDRB.com.
The victim told police that O’Connor, in addition to raping her multiple times, punched her in the face several times, repeatedly slammed her head on the floor, bit her, assaulted her with a copper pot, and struck and strangled her with vacuum cleaner tubing.
Once the woman showed signs of suffering internal injuries, O’Connor is accused of placing her in a bathtub and threatening to kill her.
The damage to the victim’s body was so widespread that a nurse had to take over 200 images to document the assault.
The incident is not the first time O’Connor has physically abused the woman, as police said he previously shot at the victim, struck her and held her hostage, according to WDRB.com.
The victim was able to get away from O’Connor when he left the residence. She went to Grant County Hospital, and upon the hospital staff observing her many injuries, police were notified.
Kentucky State Police arrested O’Connor on Saturday. He is lodged in the Carroll County Detention Center.
