A toddler has helped law enforcement capture a wanted eastern Kentucky woman.

On Friday, the Whitley County Sheriff’s Office, Williamsburg Police Department and Kentucky State Police arrived at a Williamsburg home looking for 45-year-old Tina M. Hicks, of Williamsburg.

Hicks was wanted on an indictment warrant charging her with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) along with four arrest warrants, according to the Whitley County Sheriff’s Office.

“While investigating the whereabouts of the fugitive, no adult family member was willing to report whether or not the fugitive was inside the house,” the sheriff’s office said.

But then, “a very brave and honest toddler stood up, put his hands on his hips, and stated: ‘It is good to be honest … we shouldn’t lie, she is inside the room next to the bathroom.’”

Police then found Hicks “hiding in the described location.”

She was arrested and lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.

The toddler, police said, was visiting family.

“He was healthy, intelligent, and in no way appeared to be abused. He was just at the wrong place (at the) wrong time. If deputies thought he was a potential victim of repercussions, it would have been dealt with,” the sheriff’s office said in a social media post.
