A former staff member at the Barren County Detention Center has been charged with engaging in organized crime after being caught bringing drugs into the jail.

The investigation began in December 2022 when Barren County Jailer Aaron Shirley requested the Barren River Drug Task Force investigate how drugs were getting into the detention center.

The ensuing investigation showed that 27-year-old deputy jailer Edith Piercy, of Cave City, was bringing drugs into the jail for specific inmates. Piercy, police said, was receiving payment for her services.

Piercy and two current inmates, 35-year-old Shasta Vaughn, of London, and 23-year-old Amber D. Huff, of Glasgow, are now facing charges for engaging in organized crime and first-degree promoting contraband.

Piercy was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail.
