A Rowan County High School teacher and coach has been arrested for having a sexual relationship with a student.
Andrew Zaheri, 39, of Morehead, was arrested by Kentucky State Police Wednesday morning and charged with third-degree rape. He has been placed on administrative leave.
Zaheri, an assistant boys basketball coach, is accused of having an ongoing sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.
“Rowan County Schools take all allegations of inappropriate behavior seriously and will cooperate with the appropriate agencies throughout the investigation,” the school district said in a release. “Rowan County Schools’ top priority is ensuring the safety of our students.”
Zaheri was booked into the Rowan County Detention Center but is no longer listed as an inmate.
The investigation, being led by state police, is ongoing.
