A former central Kentucky high school cross country coach arrested in October 2022 on multiple child sex crimes was killed the same day he was indicted on the charges.

Matthew S. Perraut, 45, of Paris, died Tuesday afternoon after his vehicle struck a tree on Royster Road in Lexington. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Perraut, the former cross country coach at Bourbon County High School, had been arrested by Kentucky State Police and charged with third-degree sodomy and unlawful transaction with a minor (illegal sex act). He was indicted on those charges by a Bourbon County Grand Jury on Tuesday, according to a report by the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Perraut was not a teacher the high school but had been involved in the school’s cross country program since 2008, Bourbon County Superintendent Amy Baker said in a statement to media outlets.

Perraut is also a former Paris City Commissioner, according to Fox56News.

The incident which resulted in Perraut being charged occurred in November 2015 when he allegedly took two members of the school’s cross country team, both males, to an adult woman’s residence. Perraut and the two juveniles allegedly had sex with the woman, with Perraut also accused of having sexual contact with one of the juveniles.
