Several GOP gubernatorial candidates made their candidacies official on Thursday, as the deadline to file to challenge Gov. Andy Beshear in the 2023 General Election is Friday.
Officially tossing their hats into the ring were former U.N Ambassador Kelly Craft, Somerset Mayor Alan Keck and Kentucky Ag Commissioner Ryan Quarles.
Also filing to run for the Kentucky governor’s seat was Grayson County resident Jacob Clark, according to Louisville Courier-Journal state government reporter Joe Sonka.
Clark has run twice (2020, 2022) as a Libertarian for the 18th District state Representative seat, losing to Samara Heavrin in both elections. He received only 17 percent of the vote in the 2020 election but increased his vote percentage to 42.7 percent in the 2022 General Election.
According to Sonka, Clark filed to run for governor as a Republican.
GOP hopefuls previously filing to run for Kentucky governor are Attorney General Daniel Cameron, state Auditor Mike Harmon and suspended Kenton County attorney Eric Deters.
The 2023 Primary Election is slated for May 16.
