The Bowling Green-Warren County Drug Task Force made an historic drug seizure on Wednesday.
The task force, according to a press release, developed information regarding a large amount of methamphetamine destined for Bowling Green.
“We enlisted assistance from the Kentucky State Police Interdiction Team,” the task force said. “Detectives and KSP interdiction located the suspect’s vehicle, a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe, returning to Kentucky (on I-65) from the south.”
Police initiated a traffic stop on the interstate but a brief pursuit ensued before troopers stopped the vehicle about five miles south of Bowling Green at approximately 2:00 p.m.
The vehicle’s driver, 40-year-old Joseph A. Raby and passenger, 24-year-old Brandon Trent, both of Bowling Green, were arrested without further incident.
During a search of the vehicle, police located 80 pounds of methamphetamine, which the task force described as “Mexican Meth.” Police said the street value of the methamphetamine is over a half-million dollars, and it represents the largest seizure of the drug in Warren County history.
Both suspects were charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), while Raby was additionally charged with fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, first-degree wanton endangerment, and third-degree criminal mischief.
Raby and Trent were lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail on $25,000 cash bonds.
