Kentucky State Police is investigating after a correctional officer was brutally attacked at the Kentucky State Penitentiary in Lyon County.
State police said that Sunday morning at approximately 8:45, the Department of Corrections reported that a correctional officer had been assaulted by multiple inmates at the maximum security/supermax prison in Eddyville.
The preliminary investigation showed that five inmates “orchestrated a gang attack on a correctional officer utilizing a weapon while in a common area of the prison,” police said. The correctional officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment of multiple injuries.
The investigation into the incident continues.
Due to the incarceration status of the suspects, state police investigators will present the investigation’s findings to a Lyon County Grand Jury.
