A woman has been indicted on murder and other charges after she ran a red light while intoxicated, killing an elderly Scottsville man.

The Scottsville Police Department said officers responded Thursday morning, September 1, to the intersection of Hwy 31-E and Hwy 100 on the report of a two-vehicle accident.

Police said the investigation showed that 28-year-old Annissa K. Stanton, of Nashville, Tennessee, had been traveling north on Hwy 31-E in a 2007 Nissan when she ran a red light, striking a 2006 Buick, being driven by 78-year-old Vernon D. Cooper, of Scottsville.

Cooper was transported to The Medical Center Scottsville where he was later pronounced deceased.

Stanton, according to WVLE.net, was recently indicted for murder, three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, DUI, reckless driving, disregarding a traffic control device, possession of an open alcohol beverage in a motor vehicle, illegal possession of alcohol in a dry territory, operating on a suspended operator’s license, first-degree criminal mischief, failure to wear a seatbelt, speeding, and first-degree disorderly conduct.

A passenger in Stanton’s vehicle, 34-year-old Desiree R. O’Neal, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was indicted for second-degree manslaughter and alcohol intoxication in a public place.

Stanton remains lodged in the Allen County Detention Center. O’Neal is no longer listed as an inmate.
