Firefighters in several western Kentucky counties spent Friday battling multiple wildfires, with one county’s residents informed of a wildfire spreading toward homes.

Kentucky State Police coordinated with the Graves County Sheriff’s Office on Friday afternoon just after 3:00 to notify residents in and around Hickory of a fire that was spreading toward homes near Hwy 408 and Meridian Road.

The fire, state police said, originated about two miles north of Hickory, but “due to dry conditions and high winds, the fire is continuing to spread and there is a risk that the fire may reach homes in the area” near Hwy 408 and Meridian Road.

“Residents in the area are being advised to be prepared to evacuate if necessary,” Kentucky State Police warned.

Fortunately, the fire was extinguished at approximately 9:00 Friday night without damaging homes.

A field fire in Princeton (Caldwell Co.) spread by high winds destroyed a home on Friday afternoon along with vehicles and farm equipment, according to westkentuckystar.com.

Other large fires were reported in several western Kentucky counties, including McCracken, Livingston, Daviess, Webster, Hickman, and Todd.

The state is under a Kentucky Department of Forestry daytime Burn Ban until December 1, and many county judge-executives in western and central Kentucky have issued total burn bans. The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning last week, saying that “warm temperatures, very low humidity, and strong winds are expected to combine to produce an increased risk of fire danger.”
