Grayson County Fiscal Court on Tuesday approved two Home Owner’s Associations’ applications to allow the operation of golf carts on county roadways.

County Attorney Jeremy Logsdon presented the applications, and the Traffic Safety Committee’s recommendations, to Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson and magistrates concerning the allowance of golf carts in Nolin Lake Estates (17 roads) and Rock Creek Landing (five roads).

Logsdon noted that the Traffic Safety Committee, comprised of Sheriff Norman Chaffins, County Road Supervisor Steve Bratcher and Assistant County Road Supervisor Kenny McCrady, who are charged with evaluating the safety of golf carts on the roadways, gave their approval of the applications while noting that there are “pot holes” and “uneven pavement” on some of the roadways within the subdivisions.

Magistrates unanimously approved the applications for both subdivisions.

Golf carts and operators of golf carts must still follow the requirements set forth by Grayson County’s ordinance governing the use of golf carts on county roadways. To read a list of requirements for legal golf cart usage click here.

The roadways in each subdivision approved for golf cart use are as follows:

Rock Creek Landing – Irv Lane, Allen Lane, Allen Road, Lakeside Drive, and Rocky Hill Estates Road from Quail Hollow Road to 4051 Rocky Hill Estates Road (a distance of about a ½ mile).

Nolin Lake Estates – Scenic Drive, Sassafras Drive, Lookout Point, Ridge Crest Drive, Ridge Crest Court, Deer Lane, Upper Ridge Crest Drive, Lower Ridge Crest Drive, Lakeview Circle, Pine Crest Drive, Elmcrest Drive, Hickory Lane, Maplecrest Drive, Cedarcrest Drive, Hillcrest Drive, Hillcrest Court, and Crestview Drive.

Change in Fiscal Court meeting time

In September 2019, magistrates, at the request of Henderson and Grayson County Jailer Jason Woosley, moved Fiscal Court meetings from once per month to the first and third Tuesday of the month. The change was made to accommodate the timely paying of bills (many bill payments must be approved by the court).

On Tuesday, Woosley and Henderson said changing the dates of meetings created more issues than it solved; therefore, Henderson requested magistrates approve moving Fiscal Court meetings to the third Thursday of the month at 5:00 p.m., beginning in November.

The request was unanimously approved.
