A Grayson County man has been jailed after shooting up his own home and telling police he was in a shootout with burglars.

Thursday night at approximately 8:35, Grayson County Deputies Nick Pruitt, Sean Fentress and Justin Cockerell were dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of Pearman Road (off Wax Road) after the occupant, 44-year-old Dewayne W. Logsdon, reported to Central Dispatch that he and “possibly three subjects” exchanged gunfire as the burglars were attempting to break into the home, according to the arrest citation.

Deputies were informed while en route that the burglars had left the area.

Upon arriving at the scene, police found Logsdon on the front porch with his hands up (as instructed by dispatch). He was “sweating profusely,” according to the citation.

Logsdon told police that he “shot 60 AR15 rounds and 14 .40 caliber rounds through his house,” the citation states, as deputies found “multiple bullet holes in his walls.”

While being questioned about the incident, Logsdon changed his story multiple times. Police then asked for and received permission to search the residence “for illegal drugs,” with Logsdon volunteering that there was marijuana in his bedroom.

During the search, deputies located the marijuana Logsdon referred to as well as a “broken glass pipe, possibly a crack pipe and … blue colored powder …,” according to the citation.

Police also found handguns and rifles inside the residence.

Authorities additionally discovered a surveillance camera mounted near the back door, where Logsdon earlier told police the burglars had entered his home.

Deputies viewed the surveillance video and found that Logsdon “had been in and out of the house with the guns for nearly 1.5 hours before he called 911.” No one else, police said, was observed on the camera.

Logsdon was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified), falsely reporting an incident, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The drugs charges are enhanced due to the presence of the firearms.

He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
