A Radcliff man found guilty of murdering a Big Clifty woman has been formally sentenced in a Hardin County courtroom.

Joseph Eugene Meredith, 32, was sentenced to 70 years in prison on Tuesday, according to a report by The News-Enterprise.

Last month, a jury found Meredith guilty of killing 27-year-old Angela Dawn Kerr in March 2021. In the sentencing phase of the trial, the jury recommended a sentence of 30 years on the murder charge, 20 years on the possession of a handgun by a convicted felon count and 20 years for abuse of a corpse; sentencing recommendations that were followed by the judge in the case.

The sentences are to be served consecutively, giving Meredith a total of 70 years in prison.

Meredith shot Kerr multiple times at the residence at 870 Scenic Drive in Radcliff. He was arrested only hours later and was in possession of the murder weapon.

Court testimony revealed he killed the mother of two because of text messages she received from another man.
