UPDATE (12:30 pm) – The ATF has cleared the scene and reported the device was construction related and posed no threat to the campus community.
A potential explosive device has been found at Western Kentucky University’s Cherry Hall.
The area surrounding the historic building at WKU has been evacuated but law enforcement does not believe it to be an active situation. Buildings affected by the evacuation are Cherry Hall, Van Meter Hall, The Commons, Gordon Wilson, College High Hall, Faculty House, and Potter Hall.
Officials say that the device is believed to be construction related.
All classes on campus have been suspended indefinitely while “multiple agencies” investigate the potential device.
WKU PD is requesting everyone on-campus to use buildings “at the bottom of the hill (including DSU and the Preston Center).”
