Kentucky State Police held its annual sworn awards ceremony in Lexington on Monday to honor troopers and officers for acts of bravery and service in 2021, including three officers from KSP Post 4 in Elizabethtown.
During the ceremony, KSP Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr. recognized the agency’s troopers and officers for going beyond the mission of KSP in 2021.
“Last year, troopers responded to two historic natural disasters, running into unthinkable dangers, assisting with the continued fight against the deadly drug epidemic, and answering thousands of calls for service,” KSP said in a news release.
Among those honored were:
- Senior Trooper Elliott Young, a four-year KSP veteran from Mt. Washington, was named 2021 Post 4 and KSP Trooper of the Year
- Detective Tony Hardin, a 12-year KSP veteran and a detective since 2014, was selected 2021 Post 4 Detective of the Year
- Officer Michael Moritz, a 10-year KSP veteran, was named 2021 Commercial Vehicle Enforcement West Region Officer of the Year
“I am very proud of these guys and their commitment and dedication to the communities in which they serve. Because of their actions on a daily basis, the commonwealth of Kentucky is a much safer place,” Post 4 Commander Jeremy Smith said.
