A University of Kentucky student has been shot and nearly a dozen students injured at a near campus house party late Wednesday night.

The shooting occurred just before midnight at 205 University Avenue, just off Nicholasville Road and across from University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Medical Center and Kroger Field.

A female student was shot in the leg and 10 students “suffered injuries from shrapnel and debris but are not believed to gunshot wounds or life-threatening injuries,” the university said in a statement early Thursday morning. All the injured students were transported to University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Medical Center for treatment.

The shooting occurred when two “uninvited subjects came to the party and an altercation ensued,” according to the university.

Early Thursday morning, the Lexington Police Department arrested two men in connection with the fight and shooting. Officials said the two men are not UK students.
