A woman has been arrested and charged with killing an elderly Scottsville man in a drunk driving crash.

The Scottsville Police Department said officers responded Thursday morning at approximately 8:15 to the intersection of Hwy 31-E and Hwy 100 on the report of a two-vehicle accident.

Police said the investigation showed that 28-year-old Annissa K. Stanton, of Nashville, Tennessee, had been traveling north on Hwy 31-E in a 2007 Nissan when she ran a red light, striking a 2006 Buick, being driven by 78-year-old Vernon D. Cooper, of Scottsville.

Cooper was transported to The Medical Center Scottsville where he was later pronounced deceased.

Stanton and her passenger, 34-year-old Desiree R. O’Neal, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, were also transported to The Medical Center Scottsville where they were treated for minor injuries and released and arrested.

Stanton was charged with first-degree manslaughter, first-degree wanton endangerment, DUI, reckless driving, disregarding a traffic control device, and driving on a suspended license.

O’Neal was charged with complicity to first-degree manslaughter and alcohol intoxication in a public place.

Both suspects were lodged in the Allen County Detention Center.
