Four people have suffered serious injuries, including two small children, in a three-vehicle accident in Leitchfield.
Thursday evening at approximately 6:40, Leitchfield Police Department Sgt. Robert Jackson and Officers Kelsey Overton and Missy Skaggs, the Leitchfield Fire Department and EMS responded to the accident at the intersection of the William Thomason Byway and Brandenburg Road.
According to police, the investigation showed that a Honda CRV, being driven north on the byway by a Harned man, failed to stop at a stop sign due to the glare of the sun. The Honda then struck a Nissan Altima, being driven north on Brandenburg Road by a Grayson County man. The Honda struck the Nissan squarely on the driver’s side back door.
The impact, police said, caused the Nissan to collide with a Chevrolet Silverado, being driven by a Grayson County man who was waiting to turn left onto the byway from Brandenburg Road.
The four occupants of the Nissan, an adult male driver and adult female passenger, along with one infant and another small child, suffered serious injuries, with the infant airlifted to a Louisville hospital. The Nissan’s two adults were transported to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center.
(Initially, both small children were going to be airlifted, but the latest information indicates that only the infant was flown to Louisville.)
The two males in the Silverado and the male driver of the Honda were not injured. The Honda’s female passenger suffered a minor injury, according to police.
The names of those involved in the accident were not available.
