The Grayson County Coroner’s Office, in cooperation with Grayson Co. Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson, magistrates, and Grayson Co. Jailer Jason Woosley, has donated one of the coroner’s office transport vans to the Letcher County Coroner’s Office.
According to a letter sent to coroner’s offices statewide by Brian Ritchie, Executive Secretary of the Kentucky Coroner’s Association, Letcher Co. “lost all of its emergency vehicles including the coroner’s transport vehicle” to floodwaters.
In response, Grayson Co. Coroner Joe Brad Hudson approached Grayson Co. Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson and Woosley about loaning a Grayson Co. Coroner’s Office transport van to the overwhelmed county.
(The idea was made possible by the recent purchase of a Chevrolet Suburban which now serves as the Grayson Co. Coroner’s Office primary transport vehicle.)
The three men, together with all six Grayson Co. magistrates, instead decided to give the vehicle to the Letcher Co. Coroner’s Office.
Furthermore, the van was outfitted with “Letcher County Coroner” placards for the driver’s side and passenger doors. The van, which was some years ago given to the Grayson Co. Coroner’s Office by Woosley (with the approval of Fiscal Court), was then filled with various supplies, including a stretcher and other on-scene supplies, lost to flooding.
Accompanying the donation of the transport van was a letter to Letcher Co. Coroner Renee Campbell signed by Hudson, Henderson and Woosley that reads in part:
“(We) are very pleased that we are in a position to help you and the Letcher Co. Coroner’s Office. We had talked about loaning you the van when Kevin and Jason decided that we should just give it to you … It’s your van to do what you wish … We hope it makes you a dependable transport vehicle … Our hearts and prayers go out to you and the entire county of Letcher.”
A reportedly emotional Campbell responded, “Thank you all for your help!! We’re more than grateful.”
