A Clarkson man has been arrested after fleeing Clarkson Police Chief Buck Meredith at “well over 100 miles per hour,” the chief said.

Monday night at approximately 7:45, Meredith attempted to stop a Nissan SUV, being driven by 47-year-old Robert J. Bradley, who was speeding on South Patterson Street. Bradley, though, fled Meredith south on South Patterson, with Meredith stating that Bradley almost hit a vehicle as he turned left onto Peonia Road.

Once on Peonia Road and while traveling east, Bradley increased his speed to over 100 mph, with Meredith backing off the vehicle near the intersection of Grayson Springs Road in the interest of public safety.

Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Clay Boone and Deputy Caleb Owens were both in the area, giving rise to the possibility of boxing in Bradley or using spike strips, but Meredith lost sight of the Nissan between Grayson Springs and St. Augustine Road.

Police, though, began searching roads that run off Peonia Road, with Owens spotting the Nissan parked in a driveway (not the suspect’s residence) in the 100 block of St. Augustine Church Road. While searching the area around the vehicle, Owens made contact with and arrested Bradley.

Meredith charged Bradley with first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree fleeing or evading police and driving on a DUI suspended license, his third such offense, making the violation a felony. He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

In addition to Meredith, Owens and Boone, assisting at the scene were Constable Mark Stanton and new Deputy Andy Cast.
