A Hart County man has been murdered after interrupting a burglary.

Kentucky State Police said that on Friday night at approximately 6:00, troopers responded to a residence in the 10070 block of Hammonsville Road, about a quarter mile south of Hammonsville, after a deceased male was found in a yard near the home.

The decedent was identified as 78-year-old Robert W. Myers.

Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that Myers confronted three white male suspects who were stealing items from a residence Myers owned.

“The confrontation led to Myers sustaining multiple gunshot wounds,” according to police. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Hart County Coroner’s Office.

The three male suspects were observed leaving the scene in a U-Haul truck traveling north on Hammonsville Road.

Kentucky State Police is requesting anyone with information regarding this murder to contact Detective Courtney Milam at 270-782-2010.
