A large reward is being offered after thousands of dollars in equipment was stolen from the Falls of Rough Fire Department.

The burglary took place sometime late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning at the Falls of Rough Fire Department fire house at 123 Green Farms Road.

According to Fire Chief David Mercer, three sets of newly purchased turnout gear (the protective clothing and apparatus’ firefighters wear) and other equipment were taken from the fire house. In total, the value of the items taken well exceeds $10,000, he said. The turnout gear alone is valued at approximately $2,500 apiece.

The burglar[s] forced entry into the fire house.

Mercer said fire department personnel continue to conduct an inventory of items, as other fire department property may have been stolen.

The Leitchfield Fire Department is providing turnout gear to Falls of Rough FD until the equipment can be replaced.

Mercer said a $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the burglary.

Additionally, a building adjacent to the Falls of Rough Fire Department was burglarized during the same timeframe. Recreational equipment and other items were taken. The cost of those items also reaches into several thousand dollars.

Anyone with information on these burglaries is asked to contact the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office at 270-259-3024. Sgt. Clay Boone and Deputy Caleb Owens are leading the investigation.
