A portion of the equipment stolen from the Falls of Rough Fire Department has been recovered, with multiple suspects identified in the burglary.

The Falls of Rough Fire Department fire house, at 123 Green Farms Road, was burglarized sometime late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. Well over $10,000 in equipment was stolen, including three sets of newly purchased turnout gear valued at $2,500 apiece.

Fire Chief David Mercer said that Wednesday night, two Falls of Rough firefighters took a proactive approach and decided to drive the back roads around the fire house to determine if any of the stolen equipment may have been tossed onto the side of the road.

While driving through the area, the firefighters spotted a truck carrying a dirt bike that had been stolen during the same timeframe from a building (owned by a private citizen) adjacent to the fire house.

From that point, fire department personnel were able to identify the burglary suspects and recover at least part of the stolen equipment. Several thousand dollars in equipment, though, remains unaccounted for.

The investigation is ongoing. K105 will more information on this story as it becomes available.
