Kentucky State Police is releasing more information on a deadly officer-involved shooting that happened in Barren County.
According to Kentucky State Police spokesman Daniel Priddy, the Barren County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) requested state police investigate the shooting that occurred at approximately 4:30 Saturday morning.
Officials say the preliminary investigation revealed that BCSO deputies responded to conduct a welfare check on Paul Clark Road in Cave City.
At the scene, 31-year-old Dillon Walker, of Westmoreland, TN., fled on foot from his vehicle. Deputies later located Walker in a field where he was, according to police, holding a firearm.
KSP says that those on location made “repeated loud verbal commands” for Walker to drop the weapon, after which he pointed the firearm at the deputies.
A BCSO deputy then discharged his weapon, striking Walker who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Barren County Coroner’s Office.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team.
