Multiple deputies have been shot while attempting to serve a warrant in a small eastern Kentucky community.
Kentucky State Police said several Floyd County deputies attempted to serve a domestic violence-related “court warrant” at approximately 6:00 Thursday evening at a home on Railroad Street in the heart of the Allen community. They were immediately met with gunfire from inside the residence.
Multiple deputies were struck and transported to hospitals in the area. Their conditions have not been released, but the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement referring to the incident as a “deadly shooting,” and asked people “to pray for all of the men and women involved and the families who have suffered loss.”
The suspect, whose name has not been released, barricaded himself inside the residence following the initial shooting. A standoff ensued for several hours, but the suspect was taken into custody Thursday night around 10:00.
Officers from as far away as London and Ashland responded to the scene, according to ATF Louisville.
At approximately 11:30 Thursday evening, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office posted the following statement on social media:
As reported earlier by different news media outlets, a deadly shooting has taken place tonight. An official statement from Sheriff will be released later. But for now he wants to thank everyone for your concern, texts, phone calls and most importantly your prayers. He asks that you please continue to pray for all of the men and women involved and the families who have suffered loss.
Allen is a community with a population of about 150 residents.
