A Leitchfield felon wanted for felony strangulation, first-degree burglary and assault has been arrested by Leitchfield police after being spotted at a convenience store.

Thursday morning at approximately 1:10, Leitchfield Police Officer Eugene Cain was on regular patrol when he observed 39-year-old Shawn D. Clark at FiveStar Food Mart, at 308 South Main Street.

Cain stopped the vehicle containing Clark as it began to leave the parking lot. LPD Sgt. Keith Harrell and Grayson County Deputy Erik Franklin quickly arrived and assisted at the scene.

According to police, a warrant for first-degree strangulation, first-degree burglary and fourth-degree assault was recently issued for Hayes after an investigation by LPD Officer DJ Newton. The incident involved a physical altercation between Clark and another man at a Leitchfield residence, police said.

Clark was arrested without incident, served with the warrants and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

Clark, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections, was convicted in 2015 for trafficking in a controlled substance, trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school and theft by unlawful taking. He is on parole until 2023.

Additionally, in December 2020, Clark was arrested by the Greater Hardin County Narcotics Task Force and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school and possession of drug paraphernalia.
