The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies are resuming recovery efforts for the remains of a Caneyville woman missing since June 2013.

Joining in the search for the remains of Melvia Roarx, 28, on Friday are members of the Leitchfield Fire Department, as the sheriff’s office, bloodhounds and Caneyville Fire Department personnel continue to scour a specific area just outside of Caneyville.

The recovery effort, which began early Thursday morning, will presumably continue in the same area on Friday after police made unspecified “discoveries” during Thursday’s search.

“We made some discoveries that have lead to further investigation of the area which we were in today,” Sheriff Norman Chaffins said.

Roarx, a mother of four, was last seen on June 4, 2013, when she left her home and drove approximately four miles to a Caneyville convenience store. She made it to the store but then disappeared. Surveillance video from the store showed Roarx driving back toward her residence after leaving the business. Her vehicle, though, a 2000 Dodge Caravan, was found on I-65 in Bullitt County, near Shepherdsville. Roarx’s purse was inside the van but her wallet was not.

The van’s driver’s seat had been moved back, away from the steering wheel and too far for the five feet, four inch tall Roarx to have reached the gas pedal and brake. This indicated to authorities that someone tall had likely been driving the vehicle.

According to Chaffins, his office recently received information on the location of Roarx’s remains, spurring the search.

The sheriff’s office is not releasing further details at this time.

K105 will have more on this developing story.
