A Grayson County High School student who attends the prestigious Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science at Western Kentucky University is ready to engage in face-to-face summer opportunities.

Katie Dudgeon, of Falls of Rough, will participate in the Governor’s Scholars Program this summer in addition to attending the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s Washington Youth Tour in Washington, D.C.

Dudgeon, who will graduate in 2023 with a minimum of 60 college credit hours, was accepted into The Gatton Academy in May 2021.

Established in 2007, The Gatton Academy is Kentucky’s first residential two-year program for gifted and talented juniors and seniors. The academy’s students enroll as juniors and are full-time WKU students pursuing their interests in advanced science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The goal of The Gatton Academy is to enable Kentucky’s exceptional young scientists and mathematicians to learn in an environment that offers advanced educational opportunities, preparing them for leadership roles in the commonwealth.
