The Leitchfield Police Department located and arrested a Leitchfield man wanted on an indictment warrant accusing him of first-degree rape of a juvenile.
Sunday morning at approximately 8:50, Leitchfield Police Officers Chase Melton and Eugene Cain received information that 41-year-old Daniel L. Conrad was walking on Sunbeam Road within the Leitchfield city limits.
Melton and Cain made contact with Conrad at the intersection of Sunbeam Road and Sun Down Court, with the suspect running from police into a wooded area in Lilac Estates. Melton and Cain gave chase, with police nabbing the suspect after he fell in a ditch line just east of Paula Kay Drive.
During a pat-down of Conrad, a convicted felon, police found a 9mm handgun on the suspect.
Conrad was arrested and served with the indictment warrant. He also faces charges of fleeing or evading police (on foot) and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. The suspect was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
Grayson County Deputy Sean Fentress assisted at the scene.
Conrad was indicted by a Grayson County Grand Jury earlier this month for first-degree rape and persistent felony offender for an incident that occurred in Nov. 2019 where Conrad is accused of raping a 15-year-old girl “through the use of forcible compulsion,” according to the indictment.
Additionally, Conrad has been arrested several times in Grayson County over the last two years, including:
- In February 2021 for fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle) and reckless driving and other charges
- In July 2020 for fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle)
- In April 2020 for his third DUI and possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine)
According to the Kentucky Department of Corrections, Conrad was convicted in Grayson County in March 2021 for possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified), possession of drug paraphernalia, prescription controlled substance not in its proper container, and fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle).
He is on parole until April 2024.
