A teenager has been killed after an SUV towing a trailer struck a guardrail on the Western Kentucky Parkway about two miles west of Caneyville.
Monday afternoon at 1:56, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Caneyville and Leitchfield Fire Departments, Kentucky State Police, and EMS responded to the accident between the 90- and 91-mile markers of the westbound Western Kentucky Parkway.
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found that the driver of a Ford Expedition, towing a 30-foot travel trailer, lost control of the vehicle as the trailer began to swerve, causing the Ford to hit a guardrail, a fire department official said. The guardrail entered the passenger compartment of the Expedition, striking and killing a 14-year-old girl from Paducah.
She was pronounced deceased at the scene by Grayson County Coroner Joe Brad Hudson.
The Ford came to rest immediately adjacent to the guardrail with the trailer coming to a stop in the middle of the westbound lanes.
Five people were transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, fire officials said.
The parkway was closed at the scene until approximately 6:45 Monday night.
Kentucky State Police accident reconstructionist/Det. Brad Holloman, accident reconstructionist/Trooper Tyler Lynch, Det. Bryan Washer, and Troopers Jakob Clemons and Jared Clemons investigated the accident.
Assisting at the scene were Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jarrod Mudd, Lt. Sonny Poteet, Sgt. Clay Boone, and Deputy Nick Pruitt.
Grayson County Deputy Coroner Larry Holeman assisted Hudson.
