The voters in two adjoining counties elected a new sheriff in Tuesday’s election.
Incumbent Edmonson County Sheriff Shane Doyle was defeated by James Edward Vincent, as Vincent garnered 1,396 votes (54.6 percent) to Doyle’s 1,059 (41.4). Stoney Phillips received 101 votes (4 percent).
Doyle was first elected sheriff in 2014 and began his law enforcement career in Edmonson County in 2004.
Vincent, a longtime law enforcement officer, had retired but last year began working for the Cave City Police Department.
In Ohio County, incumbent Sheriff Tracy Beatty was defeated by Adam Wright, as Wright received 2,235 votes (58 percent) to Beatty’s 1,617 (42 percent).
Like Doyle, Beatty was initially elected sheriff in 2014. Beatty began his career in law enforcement in 1994 with the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office. He also worked for the Beaver Dam Police Department.
Wright is a former Kentucky State Police Trooper. He also served as chief of the Beaver Dam Police Department and as a deputy with the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office.
Vincent and Wright will not face challengers in the November General Election.
