The Bourbon County High School head boys basketball coach has been arrested on DUI and other charges.

Lamont Campbell, 37, was arrested Saturday night by the Georgetown Police Department and charged with DUI, tampering with physical evidence and possession of marijuana.

According to media reports, police were responding to a reckless driving complaint when they arrived at a residence in Scott County and found Campbell highly intoxicated and behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Impala.

He “was unable to coherently speak,” police said in the arrest citation, according to media outlets. He told officers he had just left a wedding and had been drinking.

When asked to submit to a field sobriety test, Campbell was observed dropping a baggie containing marijuana and walking away from police.

He was not given a field sobriety test “out of safety concerns,” outlets report.

When transported to the Scott County Detention Center he registered a .231 blood-alcohol level, nearly four times the legal limit to drive.

Campbell was released from the facility after posting a $500 surety bond.

Campbell has been the head boys basketball coach at Bourbon County, just north of Lexington, since 2017. He was previously an assistant coach at Henry Clay High School in Lexington where he starred in the early 2000s.
