A Grayson County father — a felon with a lengthy history of arrests — and his teenage daughter have been arrested by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police on drug charges.
On Saturday afternoon at approximately 4:00, Grayson County Deputies Nick Pruitt and Erik Franklin along with Kentucky State Police Trooper Joey Beasley arrived at a residence in the 1600 block of Sipes School Road to serve a warrant on 47-year-old Billy Wayne Elkins, of Caneyville.
According to the arrest citation, Elkins, upon law enforcement arriving, attempted to flee the residence “out the back door.” Beasley, though, took Elkins into custody before he exited the home, police said.
During a search of Elkins, deputies located syringes and a baggy containing a white substance that Elkins said, “… may be meth and heroin mixed,” the citation says.
As Elkins was being taken into custody “and while clearing the residence,” police observed a methamphetamine pipe in plain view.
Elkins’ daughter, 18-year-old Autumn P. Elkins, of Caneyville, admitted to police that the pipe belonged to her and “that she had meth in a backpack,” the citation states. Police located a case inside the backpack that contained methamphetamine.
Both were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Billy Elkins was also served with two failure to appear warrants.
Billy Elkins is facing additional charges of receiving stolen property (anhydrous ammonia) with intent to manufacture methamphetamine, persistent felony offender, first-degree criminal mischief, driving on a DUI suspended license, no registration plates, and failure to maintain insurance.
Both suspects were lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center. Autumn Elkins is no longer listed as an inmate.
Billy Elkins’ arrest history dates back to at least January 2014, according to online records. He has been jailed on many different charges in the ensuing eight years, including: DUI, carrying a concealed weapon, theft by unlawful taking, tampering with physical evidence, criminal trespassing, persistent felony offender, receiving stolen property, and first-degree criminal mischief.
He has been arrested in Grayson, Ohio, Muhlenberg, Daviess, and Hardin counties.
