Convicted felon with long history of arrests escapes from custody in Hopkins Co.

Kentucky State Police is searching for a state inmate with a lengthy arrest history who escaped from custody in Hopkins County.

Kentucky State Police said 35-year-old Michael Brian Harris, of Covington, fled from Calhoun Farms on Nebo Road in a stolen black 1997 Ford Ranger with no license plate and body damage at approximately 1:30 Sunday afternoon.

Harris, a state inmate, had been participating in the Hopkins County Detention Center’s second chance work program.

Harris is a white male and stands five feet, nine inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds. He has brown hair, a brown beard and is balding. He was last seen wearing “farm clothes,” according to police.

Harris has a long arrest history that dates back to at least 2013, and includes multiple arrests for possession of a controlled substance (heroin, methamphetamine), theft by unlawful taking, multiple arrests for receiving stolen property, multiple arrests for theft by unlawful taking, burglary, and first-degree sexual abuse (victim under the age of 12), according to online records.

He was convicted in 2019 in Kenton County on two counts of possession of a controlled substance (drugs unspecified), and last year in Campbell County for possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections (KDC).

His earliest release date was November 2022, the KDC states.

Harris, beginning in May 2021, was held in the Grayson County Detention Center.
