The state office of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) announced on Monday that Rep. Samara Heavrin, R-Leitchfield, achieved a 100 percent NFIB voting record in the 2021-22 session of the Kentucky General Assembly.

“It’s important to have elected leaders who understand the challenges facing Kentucky’s small business and will do everything they can to enable small businesses to grow and create jobs,” NFIB State Director Tom Underwood said.

During her time in the legislature, Heavrin has earned a reputation as an outspoken advocate for Kentucky’s small businesses and the role they play in creating jobs and strengthening communities, the NFIB said.

“Being a small business owner, I know the current challenges people are facing. I will continue to be an advocate here in Frankfort and in our community. Our caucus stands committed to working to combat the worker shortage,” Heavrin said.

Since June 2021, Heavrin has owned Barb’s Solutions, a business that assists private citizens and businesses with their organizational needs, and named in honor of her grandmother, Barbara Bishop.

Heavrin won a special election in November 2019 to fill the seat vacated by the unexpected resignation of 18th District Rep. Tim Moore. She was sworn in on December 2, 2019, completing Moore’s term before winning the 2020 election by receiving 83 percent of the vote.
