One of Grayson County’s longtime Most Wanted has been captured.
Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Sonny Poteet arrested 20-year-old Gavin Petty Monday morning. Petty has been on the sheriff’s office list of Most Wanted suspects since January 2022.
He was wanted for fleeing or evading police (on foot), possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), giving an officer false identifying information, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is additionally being held on a trafficking in a controlled substance charge.
“Basically, he was living out of vehicle in a wooded area off Old Hartford Road,” Sheriff Norman Chaffins said. “A heads-up citizen saw that something did not look right and thought there was some suspicious activity coming from several individuals where two cars were parked in the area.”
Poteet responded to the scene and found Petty asleep in a vehicle and arrested the suspect without incident.
Petty was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
