Police in eastern Kentucky have thwarted a jail break attempt by two inmates; one recently sentenced to life in prison after committing four murders and the other accused of a domestic violence murder.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were summoned to the Whitley County Detention Center late Friday night due to the attempted escape, according to a statement by the Whitley County Sheriff’s Office. The attempt to break out of the jail was executed by 41-year-old Paul O. Brock, of Corbin, and 41-year-old Nicholas M. Rucker, of Woodbine, Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Byrd told WYMT.com.

Brock was sentenced in March to life in prison without the possibility of parole for a 2018 quadruple murder while Rucker is being held in the facility on a domestic violence murder charge, according to WYMT.com.

Police have not offered details on the escape attempt, but have stated the situation was brought under control quickly and all prisoners are accounted for.

Law enforcement believes other inmates as well as people who were not incarcerated aided in the escape attempt.

The investigation is ongoing.
