Police are investigating a shootout between two men in Madison County.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to the shooting Thursday morning in the 1000 block of Mule Shed Road, just west of Richmond, WKYT.com reports.

Upon arriving at the residence, police learned that Tommy Edington had arrived at his estranged wife’s home brandishing a shotgun.

Edington’s wife (who has a protective order against him), three men, including Hogan Rose, and a juvenile were at the home when they observed Edington arrive at the residence with the firearm.

The occupants of the home fled into the master bedroom bathroom. When Edington entered the residence by kicking the front door down, he fired shots through the master bedroom door, the television station reports.

Rose then left the bathroom and began shooting at Edington.

Both men sustained gunshot wounds.

The juvenile and the men escaped the residence while Edington reloaded, but the suspect was able to grab his estranged wife as she attempted to flee. He then barricaded himself and his estranged wife in a room.

When police arrived, though, Edington surrendered without incident. His estranged wife was unhurt.

Rose was treated and released from Baptist Health Richmond, while Edington was transported to University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center with what police believe to be non-life threatening injuries.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said Edington faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, burglary, violating a Kentucky EPO/DVO and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
