An eastern Kentucky man has been jailed after mistaking a residence for a bar.
The Whitley County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a home on Boulevard of Champions near Williamsburg Saturday morning at approximately 4:00 on the report of an intruder, according to The Kentucky Daily.
The resident informed authorities that a man, later identified as 33-year-old Daniel Smith, of Lily, was in his kitchen.
Upon police arriving at the scene, Smith told authorities he “saw an ‘open sign’ on the rear patio and thought the residence was a bar,” the website reports.
Police said the home has a homemade bar on a patio with a decorative “open” sign. Smith entered the home through a gate and then went through several doors inside the home to the kitchen.
He was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary and lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center. He is no longer listed as an inmate.
