Two men, one from Leitchfield, the other a felon from Clarkson, have been arrested on drug charges during an early-morning traffic stop.
Sunday morning at approximately 4:20, Leitchfield Police Officer Eugene Cain observed a Jeep Liberty with expired registration and other violations traveling on Shelby Street. He initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, 29-year-old George M. Basham, of Leitchfield.
Officer DJ Newton soon arrived to assist, as police discovered Basham did not have proof of insurance, according to the arrest citation. Further investigation by the officers showed that Basham’s passenger, 34-year-old Bobby L. Zachery, of Clarkson, had an arrest warrant.
During a search, officers located methamphetamine on both suspects, the citation states.
Basham was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) along with non-moving violations. Zachery was served with the arrest warrant and also charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).
They were lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
According to the Kentucky Department of Corrections (KDC), Zachery was convicted in Grayson County in April 2017 for trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and again in September 2017 for possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), also in Grayson County.
He was granted shock probation, the KDC says, and is on parole until November 2022.
